Currently on display at The American Museum of Natural History in New York is this amazing 11 foot by 4 foot textile produced in Madagascar and created from the silk of the Golden Orb spider. Yes, this piece is made from spider silk - it has not been blended with other fibers nor has it been dyed! It took over four years and 80 people to weave this incredible work of art.
This beautiful tapestry is the idea of Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley who spent over a half million dollars of their own money to bring this to life. It was created utilizing a technique developed over 100 years ago a French missionary, Jacob Paul Camboué, who also wove with spider silk. There is a video which gives an inside look at the making of the textile.
